The Wonderful Barcelona

A spectacular city

Barcelona is one of the privileged Spanish cities, especially concerning its location. It occupies the northeastern part of the peninsula, having its shores bathed by the waters of the Mediterranean. Barcelona is not the largest city in Spain but the second largest one, both in population and size. However, it sometimes manages to receive more tourists than Madrid because the capital of Catalonia is a very famous and popular city due to the fact that it hosts the works of the great Antoni Gaudi.

A city that impresses you

Everyone who visits Barcelona falls in love with it; it is a typical Mediterranean city and you will realize it as you first step on its streets. The Mediterranean influence is everywhere you look in the city: in its history, in its customs and traditions, in its culture and its cuisine. The city is thought to have been founded by the Romans in the 2nd century BC and it has grown ever since.

Its most flourishing period transformed the city in the 19th century; 1888 is the year when Barcelona hosted the World Fair, an event which brought it to the attention of everybody and which transformed the city into the symbol of hard work. Actually, the hard work is a real thing in Barcelona and when you see the way the city looks, you understand it. Modernism brought splendor to Barcelona and this is one of the many reasons why it is such a popular city and why it sometimes receives more tourists than the capital of the country, Madrid.

The first impression you get when you visit Barcelona is that you are not in a single city, but in a complex of cities; this feeling is due to the fact that Barcelona has lots of influences from the many cultures that ruled it during the centuries. For example, the Gothic centre is still untouched and the narrow, cobbled streets contrast with the modern avenues. Nevertheless, the contrast is so beautiful, that it forms a perfect balance between the old and the new.

Accommodation in Barcelona

It is clear that you need a place to sleep when you go to Barcelona; well, accommodation is not a problem for the city as the list of hotels is very long and it contains something for all tastes and all pockets. Do not worry!
